About

Arrows hitting the bullseye on a target, with one red arrow standing out.

My M.A. is in Humanities with a concentration in Composition and Rhetoric. This specialization means I teach writing as a process rather than a formula. Too often, students dislike "English" because traditional formulas in English don't work for everyone. I strive to customize my lessons to each person I work with.

For 5 years, I taught College Composition (ENG 101 & 102) courses, allowing me to gain a strong understanding of what college professors expect. Teaching at the college level also gave me extensive experience working with ESL/ESOL students. After my teaching career, I dedicated 10 years to professional writing and public speaking. My work has been featured in the New York Times, Reuters, Bloomberg, NPR, and various local publications. As a seasoned speaker, I have taught numerous classes and workshops on communication subjects including creative writing, writing for diverse audiences, and high school college preparatory writing. Additionally, I have served as an independent consultant assisting small businesses, nonprofits, and government agencies in devising public outreach plans and implementing community engagement strategies for distinctive and dynamic audiences.

These real-world experiences give me a relatable and practical approach to teaching.

In recent years, my focus has been on teaching, coaching, and mentoring  students one-on-one. I've had the opportunity to work with a diverse array of individuals motivated by a common goal: to communicate better. I truly value the chance to help people feel more confident about their writing abilities.

Writing is a specialized skill, but it is not something we are either born able to do or not. Just like all forms of communication, each of us is capable of becoming proficient. How good we are, how comfortable we are, and how confident we are all depend on how we were taught.

I teach writing as an achievable skill, regardless of the audience or purpose. As a teacher, coach, and mentor my goal is to find the methods that work best for you.

I live in Harrisburg, PA with my husband , twin sons, two dogs, and two cats.

I have over 20 years experience as a communications teacher, coach, and mentor; a professional writer; and a consultant
